What Happens at my Appointment?

A typical massage treatment will begin with a client interview based on your health history and presenting complaint. The therapist will then perform an assessment to deduce what may be the source of your pain, discomfort or change in function. Then she will discuss a possible treatment plan with the client. Once the techniques, areas to be treated, and other variables have been agreed upon, the treatment can begin. After the initial appointment, a full assessment is not done every time, but frequent re-assessments will help the therapist and client to see the effectiveness of the treatment plan.

Therapeutic massage is done on a raised massage table. The client is typically undressed to their level of comfort, covered by sheets at all times except for the specific area being treated. Pillows are strategically placed to keep the client comfortable and aligned properly during the massage. The therapist will check in frequently to assure the clients comfort with the pressure, techniques, and draping. Your massage should be comfortable and relaxing, however deeper work may be necessary. Some discomfort or mild pain is possible, but it should never go above the clients tolerance, which can be discussed prior to commencing treatment.
